Vocabulary : Which vs. What

When asking a question, the words “which” and “what” are frequently misused.

“What” is used to ask a question when there are an unknown number of possible answers. “Which” is used to ask a question when there are a fixed number of possible answers.

Incorrect:

With what hand do you write?

Which is your favorite color?

Correct:

With which hand do you write?

What is your favorite color?
