Round Travel Sized Quarto Game

Round Travel Sized Quarto Game

I made four round Quarto Games. Check out Woodworking for Mere Mortals for how to play it and build your own.

I’m calling this a travel version because of its small size and holes to prevent the pieces from getting jarred off the “board”.

The case is made of oak and stained with Minwax Jacobean and sealed with a wipe-on Minwax Satin Poly. The pieces were wiped with a Minwax brushing lacquer.

The holes and bottom are lined with black felt. I glued the felt to ordinary paper with the hole patterns already on the paper in order to cut it out easily. Then it was glued into the holes. (Yes I cut out a disc for each hole – the felt gives it some class – but my fingers were tired after all the scissor work.)

The top has a threaded brass insert that threads onto an allen-head screw that was drilled and tapped into the oak base. It only takes about 1-2 revolutions to put the top on.

For those interested in the sizes:

The box is 6” round x 1-5/8” tall. The top is 5/8” thick; base is 1” thick. The tall pieces are 1-1/4”. The short pieces are 7/8”. Each piece is 5/8” round/square. The holes are 13/16”. ID of the case is about 5-3/8”. The center is 1” diameter.

Enjoy!
