Heath Ledger played a variety of characters before he passed away. Some of these characters include The Joker, a homosexual cowboy, and my personal favourite, a knight named Ulrich von Liechtenstein.
Sir Ulrich von Liechtenstein was the ridiculous, made up name of Ledger's character in the movie A Knight's Tale. The named was made up because William (the character's real name) is trying to pretend to be a knight—and that was the first name that popped into his head.
While the name sounds incredibly phony and made up, Sir Ulrich von Liechtenstein was an actual knight! Most of the information we know about Sir Ulrich comes from his autobiography, Frauendienst. In the book, he claims to be an undefeated jouster, and a fierce competitor.
The real Sir Ulrich lived from 1200 - 1275 and lived in the Eastern Alps, somewhere in the area of present day Austria. For more information about Sir Ulrich Von Liechtenstein, click the source!
