70% of land in England is still owned by the descendants of William the Conqueror's army!

Well now, this is certainly interesting: According to the writer Kevin Cahill, in Britain 70% of land is still owned by less than 1% of the population.

If we were to go even deeper with that, 0.3% of all British population owns 66% of the country, and these 160,000 families who own two thirds of Great Britain largely descend from the army of William the Conqueror, the first Norman King of England who first conquered the country in 1066.

After a long struggle to establish his power, by 1060 his hold on Normandy was secure, and he launched the Norman conquest of England in 1066.

The rest of his life was marked by struggles to consolidate his hold over England and his continental lands and by difficulties with his eldest son.
