Man Shower Mallet

Man Shower Mallet

My Wife’s family has a tradition, called the Man Shower.

It is the masculine equivalent to a bridal shower.

Men, in support of the groom, gather, grill meat, compete in manly games such as target shooting or flint/magnesium fire starting, and most important of all give gifts to the Groom.

Now there are rules to the gifts one brings to a Man Shower:

-It must belong in the garage, wilderness, or shop

-It must be wrapped…you CANNOT use wrapping paper

-No cards allowed

-No thank you cards allowed from the Groom.

Typically, a wedding is filled with gifts for the kitchen or bedroom… a man needs tools.

The goal is to get the groom a good start on his way to taking care of a home.

My cousin is getting married in a couple weeks, so his Man Shower was this weekend.

The house was in the suburbs so the games were slightly modified. We used a crossbow, and throwing knives to target shoot (neighborhoods dont typically like the sound of guns), and competed in the speed in which we could begin a fire using a striker and magnesium.

This was the first mallet I had ever attempted and it was a really fun project. I “wrapped” it in a quick box with hand cut dovetails with a sliding top that reveals the mallet nestled in plane shavings.

Here are a few pics of the build.
