Longbow

Longbow

This is a Father / Daughter Project to build a Longbow, my Daughter is a huge fan of the Hunger Games and wanted a crack at Archery so we built this!

Its made of English Oak and Pine. Oak is a traditional Longbow wood in England, although Yew is more popular. Oak is an outstanding compression wood, the Pine is there to add a bit of spring.

There is a cross section diagram to explain how we put this together. We used a spokeshave to shape the wood, testing the draw as we went. We managed to get a well balanced draw and a very powerful bow with a range of around 100yds. Its a bit too strong for my Daughter so we will be making another one, this time a laminated one.

The arrow is fletched with Pheasant Feathers instead of goose, but its accurate enough for our purposes.
