We play an awesome game called Munchkin our house. A while back we got a version called Munchkin Booty, a pirate-themed set. Since then, we’ve added two more expansions and a dire situation occurred. Nothing big enough to store all the cards, rulebooks and paraphernalia. So I got some inspiration out of the closet, a ton of reclaimed wood out of the back of my shop and took a few months (whenever there was free time) to cobble this baby together.
Made from repurposed cheap-o bunkbed wood (both pine and birch, plywood from a desk, handles from a cabinet, and brand-new (subsequently battered) hinges.
I used a hammer, saw, rasps and rocks to beat the crud out of this thing, gouge it and make it look like it had been through a few shipwrecks, battles and drunken maroonings on a desert isle before being dug up and put to use.
Finished with stain made from coffee, aniline dye, Minwax oak stain and then Poly clear coat.
