Quatro Game

Quatro Game.... ala Steve Ramsey. After Steve posted his version of the Quatro Game, I had to do one. My version is a bit more compact, about 7.5 inches square, but works the same. The board is 1/4 inch walnut glued on top of 1/4 cherry faced plywood. The board is framed with white quarter sawn oak and splined with walnut.

1 1/4 inch holes were drilled through the walnut to create the board positions and reveal the cherry. The playing pieces are white oak and walnut, turned and cut from 3/4 inch stock and drilled with 3/8 inch holes to create the hollows in half the pieces. The game seems simple, but it is loaded with strategy. The object of the game is to get four pieces in a row that have some common characteristic….tall, short…..square, round…..light,dark…..solid, hollow. The kicker is, that your opponent chooses which piece you play. I explained the game to my wife, and the first time we played, she wupped me. Beginners luck? I’m not so sure.
