Squirrel Feeding Condo

Squirrel Feeding Condo

I had some spare time this weekend while watching football games and drinking a few beers while I was out in my shop and decided to update an old squirrel feeder I made a few years ago. All the material is scrap wood I have laying around the shop.

It measures 12 inches by 22 inches and is about 12 inches tall. I used pocket screws for most of it even the floating picnic table on the side, that turned out pretty nice, I wasn’t sure how I was going to do that, but it just came to me as I was messing around with different ways to mount the table on the side. I used a scrap piece of plexi glass for the front window. The based is some glued up pieces of wood I was going to use for something else and it actually worked quite well and is very solid.

The shingels are just remnants of 2×4’s that were cut off from another project I made earlier this year. I decided to leave it natural for now, maybe in the spring or summer I might put a coat of poly on it.

The last picture is the place in our back yard where the condo is attached to our fence in the corner. We, mostly me, have a fun time watching the squirrels go in the feeder and come out and sit and eat the peanuts. My kids think I am nuts, but I have a good time tinkering in my shop. Maybe a bird feeder next.

Little projects first, then this summer some bigger sized projects for the back yard and for my wife.

As always thanks for looking.

More Lunatic Maze Puzzles

I had a bit of time today so I made a few mazes in Cedar, Flame Box Elder, Black Ash Burl, and Figured Cocobolo. The mazes show better in pictures before the go into their acrylic cases. The last maze puzzle is pictured to show how the case will look over the finished product.

Airing The Stank Out

What do you guys think about the ripped clothes? Personally I’m not a fan, but maybe they help serve a purpose by letting the body breathe and by letting some of the stank out. I don’t know, I’m not a body stank specialist but perhaps these have some redeeming quality. I mean they have to have one good thing about them, right?

A Grammy Award winning violinist once spent an afternoon playing in the subway as part of a social experiment.

Joshua Bell is an American Grammy Award-winning violinist and conductor.

In an experiment initiated by The Washington Post columnist Gene Weingarten, Bell donned a baseball cap and played as an incognito busker at the Metro subway station L'Enfant Plaza in Washington, D.C. On January 12, 2007.

The experiment was videotaped on hidden camera; of the 1,097 people who passed by, only seven stopped to listen to him, and only one recognized him. For his nearly 45-minute performance, Bell collected $32.17 from 27 passersby (excluding $20 from the passerby who recognized him).

Three days before, he earned considerably more playing the same repertoire at a concert where there were 100 dollar seats. Weingarten won the 2008 Pulitzer Prize for feature writing for his article on the experiment.

Check out this amazing maze that a Japanese man spent 7 years drawing!

Check out this amazing maze that a Japanese man spent 7 years drawing!

Almost 30 years ago a Japanese custodian sat in front of a large A1 size sheet of white paper, whipped out a pen and started drawing the beginnings of diabolically complex maze, each twist and turn springing spontaneously from his brain onto the paper without aid of a computer.

The hobby would consume him as he drew in his spare time until it's completion nearly 7 years later when the final labyrinth was rolled up and almost forgotten.

The man’s daughter was looking at some of her father’s old things when she found those prints and decided to upload them to twitter.

They immediately caught everyone’s attention and she started receiving several requests with a lot of questions about this awesome maze.
