A cat survived the sinking of three separate ships in WWII!

Unsinkable Sam was a cat aboard a German ship in World War II. Having cats aboard ships is something that’s been common for hundreds of years mainly due to their ability to catch rodents. He first served on the Bismarck during it's first and only mission on 18 May 1941.

After a sea battle on 27 May, the Bismarck was sunk and only 115 of the 2,200 crew members survived.

Sam was found floating on a board later by the British. The British then employed him (and named him Oscar) on the HMS Cossack, until it was hit by a torpedo on 24 October and sank three days later. Though 159 people died from the torpedo, “Oscar” survived.

He was officially named “Unsinkable Sam” and was transferred to the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal, which had played a role in the destruction of Bismarck.

The "Spanish" flu killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS has in 24 years!

The "Spanish" flu killed more people in 24 weeks than AIDS has in 24 years!

By most estimates, AIDS has claimed the lives of millions. The influenza pandemic of 1918 killed anywhere between 50 to 100 million people. That's at least 3% of the world's population of that time.

What was strange about this influenza outbreak, which was then referred to as "Spanish Flu" was that it primarily infected young adults.

This was the third worst epidemic in modern history, the likes of which humanity had not seen the bubonic plague during the middle Ages!

AIDS has claimed around 25 million lives, not as many as the Spanish flu did. However it is important to learn about this current issue and do everything we can to prevent it from spreading.

There is a snake that has a tail that resembles a spider that helps it hunt!

There is a snake that has a tail that resembles a spider that helps it hunt!

The Spider-tailed Horned Viper is a snake that’s bound to scare the arachnophobes. It has a spider-like tail that it uses for luring it's prey.

Its tail strongly resembles the camel spider I talked about earlier. That’s no surprise as they originate from the same area, namely Iran.

Today, there’s not much known about this strange creature, An adult female can get up to 1.74 ft/53 cm big. It has an extremely effective camouflage as it completely resembles it's environment.

Its scales are more rugose than in any other snakes found in it's habitat. This makes it's skin very rough.

The snake uses both direct and lateral movements to move around. When exiting it's burrow, it uses direct movements. When escaping from predators, however, it uses lateral movements.
