Crossword Cutting Board

My Mom (early 80s) loves crossword puzzles. She does them every day and she is one of THOSE people who use an ink pen to complete the puzzles. I am thinking about making her a crossword puzzle cutting board. I would like some ideas on minimum size of each individual letter box in the puzzle. I am thinking 1/2” minimum, which would mean gluing up hundreds of individual pieces in some order to create a proper crossword puzzle look. Also, with that large number of glued surfaces, do I need to take special precautions for wood movement? Finally, and ideas on what wood species would make a nice looking contrast for the light and dark squares? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Cedar Bandsaw Box

This is a bandsaw box, in the shape of pacman. This is after you beat the game, where realistically, he would be super fat by all the dots he ate. I took some wood, and cut a pacman looking out. No real measurements, just made it as close as possible. Then after cutting the drawer out I sanded it a lot. That’s about it.The light brown finish is a lighter shade of brown, to make it look like yellow. I painted the mouth with… paint. Then put a clear coat on, which you can’t see. But trust me its there.

Game (Get Me Out)

About 50 years ago my dad gave me a game called “Get Me Out”. I have copied this game in old wood scraps. The idea is to get the large square out of a slot in the opposite short end. When I was young I could do it in in about 5 min. Now I cant do it yet. There are a LOT of moves involved. And NO, you may not lift pieces, only slide them.
